Gout medicine is an expensive and difficult disease to treat, but a new startup is hoping to change that.
The company, GelMed, has developed a simple and cheap way to produce a gel that’s 100% natural, and 100% affordable.
GelMed has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to help raise money for its gel, called “The New Gel.”
“The goal is to create a gel to make a lot of people comfortable with the idea of using gel,” says founder and CEO Benjamin Cope.
“It is about the future of healthcare, not the past.”
The company is currently seeking $50,000 to make its gel.
They’re also asking for the public’s help to help them get the gel into people’s hands.
“We have been very fortunate in our journey,” says Cope, who’s a former senior engineer at GE Healthcare and currently runs a medical practice in the San Francisco Bay Area.
“There are a lot more people in the world who need a good, effective, affordable alternative to prescription medication, and the world has moved on a lot in the last decade.
Now, I think the world is ready for a more affordable, safe, natural solution for people with gout.”
GelMed aims to bring the gel from the laboratory to the shelves in the U.S. and other countries in the coming months.
They’ve partnered with a leading gel manufacturing company in the region, but the company has a number of other partners working on its next phase.
They’ll also be working with medical researchers to develop the gel, with a goal to have the gel ready for the market in 2018.
The company has already gotten some support from a variety of major companies.
For example, the company raised $12 million in a crowdfunding event on Kickstarter in March.
“I am so excited about the potential of this product and how the industry can take it to the next level,” says co-founder and CEO Mark Schatz.
GelMatic is a gel maker that has also raised a round of funding.
It uses a special polymer that can be extracted from the skin.
The gel is made of a mixture of two different types of polymer that both work together to make it hydrophobic.
This makes it resistant to water and acid, and can be stored at a higher temperature.
It’s also more flexible than a gel from a pharmacy.
“The gel is going to be much more affordable than a typical drug, and it’s going to have a lot less side effects,” says Schatz, who has spent the past few years working at GE.
“We think it will become the next natural solution to people with high blood pressure.”
Schatz hopes to eventually produce GelMed gel in the same way it uses the gel maker.
“You could make a gel for yourself, and then you could sell it for $20 or $30 or $40,” he says.
“Or you could make it for the government, and sell it to patients.”
But as much as the company wants to be the next big thing, Cope says the next step is to make GelMed affordable for everyone.
He says it’s a very difficult disease, but it’s also an incredibly exciting one.
“Gout is a disease that’s getting worse every day,” says Scatz.
“And this is just the beginning.
The solution is out there.
People are going to want to be able to take this medicine.
And they’re going to demand it.”
